Oriental's Safety, Environment and Social Responsibility (SESR) Policy
Oriental has developed a comprehensive set of SESR management systems, which have provided guidance to our teams and personnel in the pursuit of the company's exploration and development business opportunities.
These management systems were in place for the 2005 program and will be used for further exploration and development activity on the block.
The Oriental SESR management systems and planning process was utilized in the preparation and execution of the OML 115 exploration program. The eleven main elements of this system include:
- Management and Leadership
- Regulatory Compliance
- Safety Management and Hazard Assessment
- Social Responsibility and Integrity Management
- Emission, Waste and Environmental Liability Management
- Documentation and Procedure Management
- Training and Awareness
- Communication and Public Consultation
- Emergency Response
- Event Reporting, Investigation and Follow-up, and
- Continuous Improvement
Our SESR policy is very specific with respect to the obligations of our management and employees who must ensure the safety of our personnel, contractors, the public who live or work near our operational area and our commitment to protect the environment.
While incident prevention through design, risk assessment, operating procedure and training is the cornerstone of our loss management philosophy, Oriental, as a prudent Operator, works continuously to improve its’ emergency response preparedness. In addition, Oriental plans to join Clean Nigeria Association (CNA) Oil Spill Co-operative.
All of our operations personnel receive training on environmental issues, impact mitigation and prevention. This training augments emergency response training including spill response exercises. We rely upon internal and external SESR audits to ensure compliance with our policies, plans and regulations, and maintain the very high quality of programs/facilities as well as performance with respect to stated objectives.
Community Relations
The focus for community relations in the 2006 program is to monitor the trust fund which has been established. The Trust Fund project entails the establishment of a small, 30 passenger ferry from Oron to Calabar. This was an initial, confidence building project initiated for the Oron community. This service was commissioned in January, 2005. It is currently self sustaining.
A financial and operational audit was carried out in 2005 on the activities of the trust and the operation of the 30 passenger ferry purchased for the Oren community. The audit found all activities in order.
